SCBWI’s Revised Anti-Harassment Policy

February 20, 2018

Post by Avery Fischer Udagawa

Recently, much attention has focused on sexual harassment in the US children’s book industry. Here are two articles that provide background:

Children’s Book Industry Has Its #MeToo Moment (New York Times, 15 February 2018)

Sexual Harassment in Children’s Publishing Reaches a Crisis Point (Publishers Weekly, 13 February 2018)

Here is SCBWI’s response:

SCBWI’s Revised Anti-Harassment Policy Now Available (SCBWI.org)

In addition to a revised anti-harassment policy, SCBWI has a dedicated email address, harassment [at] scbwi.org, which allows individuals to share concerns and complaints, either personally or anonymously. SCBWI and SCBWI Japan commit to providing a safe and harassment-free environment for participants in our programming, and we encourage learning and conversation around this issue.
