Drawing Inspiration from Poetry 2021:
A Workshop for Writers, Illustrators and Translators
Time: Saturday, June 26, 2021, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Japan Standard Time
Place: Remote via Zoom
Fee: This event is free to SCBWI Japan members
Reservations required. To reserve, email japan (at) scbwi.org by Thursday Jun 24, 2021.
This event will be in English with some Japanese.
What to prepare: Paper, pencils, pens; writing/illustrating device optional
This workshop will be led by the SCBWI Japan Regional Team: Mariko Nagai and Holly Thompson, co-Regional Advisors; Naomi Kojima, Illustrator Coordinator; and Avery Fischer Udagawa, Translator Coordinator.
Reading and hearing poetry can inspire poems, stories and other works of art. Poems can serve as prompts for our creativity. In this workshop we’ll share poetry written for (or suitable for) children and teens—some in English, some in Japanese–selected by the SCBWI Japan regional team, and we’ll create prompts from the poems to lead you into developing your own ideas for a poem or illustration.
We’ll also try some “On the Spot” poem writing by sharing illustrations by our SCBWI Japan members to inspire poems.
And if time allows, we may even try some linked verses.
Come flex your poetry muscles in this evening workshop that is open to all—writers, illustrators, translators, newcomers and experienced alike. This was an extremely popular program in 2018. Join us for our 2021 version of this program!
