Join SCBWI Japan on Wednesday evening, March 5, 2014, for an opportunity to meet and chat with U.S.-based NY Times bestseller and award winning author, Ruta Seteptys, over dinner at UnCafe in Tokyo.
Ruta Sepetys (www.rutasepetys.com) was born and raised in Michigan in a family of artists, readers, and music lovers. Prior to beginning her career as an author, Ruta was a longtime music business executive and represented award-winning
musicians and songwriters. Ruta's debut novel, Between Shades of Gray was inspired by her family's history in Lithuania and is now published in over 4
5 countries and 30 languages. The novel is a New York Times bestseller, an international bestseller, and has received over sixty awards. On July 6th in a formal ceremony at the Presidential Palace, Ruta was 'Knighted' by the President of Lithuania in recognition for her contributions to education and culture. Ruta credits SCBWI for her path to publication. Ruta's new novel, Out of the Easy, was just released and is also a New York Times bestseller. Out of the Easy is set in the French Quarter of New Orleans in 1950 and explores the historical struggles of identity and personal freedom.
