Please join SCBWI Japan for a morning presentation and discussion with editor, writer, and publisher Tang Yaming. As an editor at Fukuinkan Shoten Publishers in Tokyo, Japan, Tang Yaming has been involved with connecting Japan and China through picture books for over thirty years. He continues making picture books, collaborating with Japanese and Chinese writers and artists, and publishing through Chinese publishers. We are delighted to invite Mr. Tang to hear about his first-hand experience in editing and publishing children’s books in Japan and China, plus the challenges, as well as the discoveries made in creating picture books across two cultures.
Tang Yaming is an editor, writer, translator, and President Emeritus of the Overseas Chinese Literature and Art Association of Japan. Born in Beijing, in 1983 Tang Yaming traveled to Japan, where he studied at Waseda University and the University of Tokyo. For over thirty years, he worked as a picture book editor at Japan’s most influential publisher of children’s books, Fukuinkan Shoten Publishers, and has taught at numerous universities. His award-winning works include novels, essay collections, and picture books.
